What is "Changunarayan"?
Changunarayan is a tiny village in the Kathmandu valley located a small distance to the east and north of Kathmandu. It is primarily spread across a small cluster of hills with an amazing view of the entire valley. At the core of the village sits one of the most important Hindu temples in the world (the oldest in Nepal and possibly 2nd oldest in the world). It happens (not on accident) to have the same name as the village and that leads to a lot of fun confusion for people unfamiliar with these things. For clarity, the temple is frequently called by the name "Changu Narayan" or just "Changu" where the village is "Changunarayan" or "Changu Village."
