What is "ChromeOS"?

One of Google's attempts at making an operating system, ChromeOS is a constant source of "fun" for anyone who tries to use it as anything other than a toy. It's a small improvement over Android (for my uses) but still feels like an alpha release of a project that may not ever see a true release. I expect to be writing about it a lot now that it is my main operating system.
