Blog Update: Images and Video

Media for Everyone!

I finally got around to generalizing the way images and video work in my build system. They've been working for one of my projects but only by using routing that was hardcoded for that site and raw HTML tags instead of Markdown-style tags. This new update provides the ability to easily add images and videos to any content managed by my build system. It auto-generates thumbnails for images, does basic image transformations, and deploys the media to whatever media servers are configured prior publishing the article. There are a few improvements that I still want to add (like thumbnail generation for non-WebM video) but that can wait.

Until then, here is a picture I took in early 2015:

Coming Up

As I'm adding new content over the next few weeks, I'll try to go back and add some images to older posts as well. I have a lot of pictures from my time in Nepal but it will take some time to go through them and find ones to post. As a reminder, anytime a post gets updated it gets a new version and that new version will appear at the top of the "Recent Posts" list (on the main page) when it is published. All prior version of updated posts remain so that people can see what has changed.

I'm also going to be looking into adding streaming video and a feedback system this month. I'm considering adding RSS as well but I will wait until after the feedback system is finished and use that to see how much interest there really is in RSS. I have several other projects in progress and so I'm not sure when I'll get all these changes done - definitely by end of the month unless I run into any unforeseen issues though.

Note: I made a silly copypasta mistake on the write date and location for the original version of this post. This update fixes that.
