Quick Update
So much to write but only a little time to do it now. I'll start with the beginning of the day and add more later. But to summarize, it's been a long day and it started out a bit stressfully but it has turned out wonderfully and somehow my luck has managed to put me in the right place again.
Landing in Kathmandu took forever and so did getting there. The flight plan was just bizarre. The plane kept zigzagging east and then south. It's possible we were avoiding certain airspaces but we seemed to at least cross through Afghanistan so I'm not sure what we would have been avoiding. We approached Kathmandu from the south (as you have to do because of the mountains) but then circled for 3 laps while shedding altitude. It was quite overcast and slightly raining plus the valley is always hazy this time of year so we didn't see the city or runway until we were right above it. The airport is bigger than I thought but still small. There were at least 6 other airplanes already there, of which 2 others were jumbo jets (ours was an Airbus 320-200).
